CLEVELAND - An investigation is under way after a man in police custody died of a possible heart attack minutes after being shocked by a Taser gun from a Cleveland police officer.
The incident began around 8:40 p.m. Friday in the area of East 113th Street and Benham Avenue.
Around that time the driver of a vehicle police had stopped became uncooperative and combative with officers.
The 40-year-old man then attempted to flee on foot from police. Officers quickly caught him, but the man resisted arrested.
When additional officers arrived to assist, a taser was used on the man.
Because a taser was used a police supervisor and EMS was called to the scene. When EMS arrived, workers noticed the arrested man appeared to be suffering from cardiac arrest.
According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office, Rodney Brown Sr, 40, of Cleveland died at University Hospital Friday evening.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy report at this time.
