MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - All lanes are now open on Interstate 271 after being shut down for almost 12 hours.
Part of 271 northbound were closed Friday morning when a semi-truck crash, spilling chemicals on the roadway.
Mayfield Heights police said at 9:13 a.m. the truck lost control and drove between the express lanes, before going down an embankment. The truck then crossed over Marsol Road and went back up to the top of the freeway.
The semi was carrying resin, which is used as a hardening material when building boats. The leak is now under control, but hazmat crews and the EPA will remain on the scene.
Officers closed the area of Cedar and Brainard roads. There were reports of a major traffic backup in the area.
The backed-up traffic caused one vehicle to catch on fire from overheating, but that blaze was put out quickly.
The driver of the truck was breathing and conscious, before he was taken to Hillcrest Hospital. His name and condition are not known at this time.
