CLEVELAND - Hydro-fracking , the controversial method of drilling for natural resources, is the topic of conversation in Youngstown Wednesday.
A community forum is planned on how the recent earthquakes play a role in potential drilling.
In Columbus on Tuesday, close to 200 people rallied outside the statehouse urging lawmakers to ban hydro-fracking, or fracking for short.
Fracking is when you blast pressurized water, sand and chemicals deep underground to release gas and oil reserves. As for the situation in Youngstown, state natural resources officials said dozens of similar injection wells have operated around the buckeye state for decades without any problems.
But the group "No Frack Ohio" wants wastewater injections to be banned as well. The governor has already stopped wastewater injections at five area wells because 11 small earthquakes hit the area.
Here's the information on this community forum:
It's being held between 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the Covelli Centre community room on East Front Street in Youngstown. Officials from the Department of Natural Resources and state EPA are expected to be there. State Representative Robert Hagan organized the meeting.
