BOCA RATON, Fla. - A Boca Raton, Fla., baker is devastated after a birthday cake she made for LeBron James was rejected.
Alethea Hickman of Passion For Pastry said she was approached by the managing partner of the Shelborne South Beach hotel over the weekend to make a last-minute cake for James' 27th birthday.
Hickman said she was promised publicity in return for the $3,000 five-tier cake, which she made free of charge.
Hickman awoke New Year's Day to learn her cake was rejected. Instead a cake made by a competing Miami baker ended up in the spotlight.
She isn't sure if it was James, his representatives, or someone else who decided her creation wasn't up to snuff.
Hickman says she poured hours of effort into the cake for James, which she could've used toward her business on one of the busiest weekends of the year.
To make matters worse, Hickman said she has no idea what became of her cake.
