CLEVELAND - Travel from Ohio to the East Coast has been disrupted by Hurricane Sandy, with the huge storm bearing down on major airports.
More than half of Dayton International Airport flights Monday are canceled. A spokesman says the 22 departures and 21 arrivals canceled in Dayton involved eastern cities such as New York and Washington. Flights have also been canceled at airports in Akron, Cleveland, Columbus and the Cincinnati region.
More than 7,000 flights overall have been canceled nationally because of the storm.
Ohioans are urged to monitor storm developments, especially people around Lake Erie and in low-lying areas. High winds from the storm could cause power outages, and forecasters say some Ohioans likely will see the season's first snow in the state Tuesday.
Hurricane Sandy is heading north from the Caribbean, where it has left nearly five dozen dead, to meet a winter storm and a cold front, plus high tides from a full moon, and experts say the rare hybrid storm that results will cause havoc over 800 miles from the East Coast to the Great Lakes.
