OAK HARBOR, Ohio - Police in Oak Harbor, Ohio, are investigating a murder-suicide that left a family of five dead.
The bodies of 31-year-old Alan Atwater, his 30-year-old wife Dawn and their three small children were found in their Oak Harbor home just before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police said Mr. Atwater called 911 just after midnight, saying there had been a terrible accident at his Leutz Road home. Mr. Atwater admitted to dispatchers he shot his wife and three children, ages four, two and one and a half. When the dispatcher asked what went on, Mr. Atwater ended the call.

Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the home and made repeated attempts to contact Mr. Atwater. After there was no response, deputies forced their way into the home and found the family in an upstairs room just before 3 a.m. All five had been shot to death.
At this time, sheriff's detectives are continuing their investigation into why Mr. Atwater may have done this. Mr. Atwater was employed in the maintenance department at the Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station.
