NEW YORK - Friday 4:15 p.m.--  Dr. Oz says his big vice is dark chocolate-covered nuts.  Now you're reaction is probably similar to mine, so I busted his chops a little on this.  If you've read any of his books, you know two of the things he and Dr. Roizen promote is eating a handful of nuts, like raw almonds or walnuts every day; and if you eat chocolate, it should be dark.  His "vice" is a little like saying in a job interview that your biggest fault is that you work too hard.  Right.  He explained, however, that once he starts eating them he tends to eat the whole bag in one sitting.  Okay, Dr. Oz, maybe you are a little more like us than I first thought.  I'll give you a pass on this one.

Friday 7:12 a.m.--   It turns out Dr. Oz isn't perfect and he owns up to it.  Maybe that's why we like him so much.  I hope someday I get to meet his wife Lisa (who worked many years in television), she sounds like a hoot.  Dr. Oz says she's always keeping his feet on the ground, which means he's not too big a TV star to avoid taking out the trash.

He was very forthright when we spoke, telling me he's always got to be doing something.  He has a hard time being in the moment and he's working on changing that.  Lisa reminds him of the importance of cherishing family moments and not rushing through them, thinking about the next thing "to do".

I also asked him, if he could get people to follow just one piece of advice from him, what would it be?  I posted the video of his answer.  It's not easy advice to follow, but it sounds worth it.

Today, at 5pm on Live on 5, I will share the last of my stories behind the scenes.  It's all about how Dr. Oz's life has changed since appearing on Oprah and having his show take off.  He also talks about his one vice he can't control.  I'll post what that is later today.

Thursday 6:08 p.m.-- I just posted the story about the relationship between Dr. Oz and Cleveland's Dr. Roizen.  Rob Gardner did a great job editing that!  Tomorrow morning I'll blog about some of the times Dr. Oz has trouble following his own advice.  Guess what his biggest weakness is.  I'll tell you tomorrow.

Thursday 4:50 p.m.-- For those of you who have enjoyed watching the rehearsals of The Dr. Oz Show in my stories this week, I just found out that particular show is scheduled to air on Thursday Sept. 16.  I was busy in the control room and elsewhere during the actual taping of the show, so I couldn't really pay attention, so I'm looking forward to seeing it too.

I'm wondering what the raw pizza dough they flipped around in the rehearsal has to do with the bladders they had out on a tray!  It's the one about husbands with ADHD.  Can't wait to see how they connect all that!!

If the air date changes, which sometimes it does, I'll let you know.  To see my story about Dr. Oz's Cleveland connection, check back here later, I'll be adding it to the blog right after it airs on Live on 5 today.

Thursday 5:50 a.m.-- I'm still laughing today about what happened when I was on WDOK yesterday with Trapper and Terry. It was actually something that happened off the air. A woman called in during a commmercial break to say she was on a plane once and saw Dr. Roizen eating some potato chips!  The horror!  (If true, I'm sure they were baked. It's exactly what Friday's story on Live on 5 is about.)

I talked to Dr. Oz about how his life has changed since he started the show and he said it's amazing how people watch everything he eats when he's out and about. (By the way, I did exaclty that when I was in his dressing room, you can't help but do it!). He has a remedy for that problem though. I'll share it with you tomorrow and let you if he ever cheats.

Today, though, I have a really interesting story about how Dr. Oz's and Dr. Roizen's partnership was formed. Those two are funny together. They're like brothers laughing and picking on each other. They talk on the phone every Sunday specifically about the "YOU" books they write together. Dr. Oz says his wife always accuses him of goofing around and not getting any work done because he spends the whole conversation laughing. I can definitely believe that.

Wednesday 12 p.m.--Dr. Oz went on Good Morning America today, and during that interview he discussed his plan to get people to lose ten pounds. Part of the plan is giving out free "Just 10" bracelets, which you can get here .

5 a.m.-- Some people may not realize the Cleveland connection Dr. Oz has. He was actually born here at Mt. Sinai Hospital (which is now closed). Then he came back, just after he finished his residency to study for a short time at the Cleveland Clinic. It was there he met Dr. Toby Cosgrove, who is now the CEO. Back then, Dr. Cosgrove was a division chief.

Dr. Oz told me how cool it was that Dr. Cosgrove, who was extremely busy, took him to an Indians game and talked to him about life. It made a huge impression on Dr. Oz all those years ago. I've included our conversation about that here on the web in the video section.

It's not in the story which airs today Live on 5, so you can only see it here.

In another video I just added this morning, Dr. Oz talks about being born here.

Later today, be sure to watch the 5 p.m. news. I think when you see what it's like on the set of "The Dr. Oz Show," you'll be surprised at how much laughter there is. I thought it was really interesting the way Dr. Oz talked about the differences and similiarities between hosting a TV show and doing heart surgery.

What struck me most about Dr. Oz when I met him in person is that he is exactly what you want YOUR doctor to be. He pays attention when you're talking to him and he talks to you like you're the only person in the room. I knew he was in a hurry when we did our formal interview together. He needed to catch a flight to Maine for his daughter's wedding and we were going overtime after a very long day. He was completely engaged in our conversation and answered every question without fidgeting or looking at his watch. Pretty, cool, huh? Oh, and he still made his flight. See you at 5!

12:50 p.m. Tuesday-- I was just talking to Dr. Michael Roizen about Dr. Oz's show today on how his colonoscopy found a pre-cancerous polyp.  Well, it turns out, Dr. Mike had one discovered during one of HIS first colonoscopies, too!  Here's a link to his blog about what we should learn from this.  It's very easy to read.

11:20 a.m. Tuesday -- I've just added a couple of fun video outtakes from when we shot our stories in New York City.  I love them because they really show Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen being relaxed and funny.  They like to have a good time while they're working.

On the one outtake, when I first met Dr. Oz, he complimented me on my jacket and I told him the woman who sold it to me at Saks wanted me to tell her if he was as handsome in person as he is on televison.. you'll see his response.

Hey, if you can't have a good time working in something as fun as TV, where can you have it?  Check out the video!  I'll be adding more in the next couple of days as we share our stories on Live on 5.  The first story airs tomorrow.  More on that later.

5:05 a.m.--First, I want to tip my hat to Dr. Michael Roizen at the Cleveland Clinic for making this trip possible. For months he’s been saying I should come see him at the Dr. Oz Show in New York City, and when the planets finally aligned (i.e. my bosses said I could), we went.

Dr. Mike and his amazing assistant Beth Grubb are the reason my photographer Dave Hatala and I were able to take this awesome trip, have the access we did, and then be able to share it with all of you.

When I was visiting Dr. Mike and Dr. Oz on the set of the show, neither of them mentioned that Dr. Oz’s recent colonoscopy had yielded a pre-cancerous polyp. Dr. Oz and I spoke just before he headed to Maine for his daughter’s wedding, and we didn’t talk about it.

I’ve now been told he didn’t want the news to get out because he didn’t want to worry anybody in the family and overshadow his daughter’s big moment.

During the noon show on Wednesday, Sept. 8, I’ll talk with Dr. Oz live via satellite about that colonoscopy.

It’s so odd this happened because I had been thinking a lot about how much pressure he’s under to STAY in good health. If he were to get sick, I’m sure a bunch of people would say, “He’s the healthiest guy around, if he gets a life-threatening disease, what chance do I have of preventing it?”

That’s the beauty of this test and what happened. Dr. Oz is showing us we’re all vulnerable and that’s why we need to be screened for certain diseases depending on our age and/or risk.

I think you’ll enjoy getting to know Dr. Oz, as I did. Before meeting him, I liked his show and appreciated his message. Now that I’ve met him, though, I get it. I get what Oprah saw in him years ago. He’s engaging, he’s interested, and he’s committed (and yes, EJ at Saks, he is even better looking in person).

Through their best-selling books together, he and Dr. Roizen started a movement to encourage people to take more control of the quality of their lives. I’m glad to be a tiny part of that.

This whole week on Live on 5, I’ll be showing you what it’s like behind the scenes of The Dr. Oz Show. In my first story on Wednesday, I’ll take you through the rehearsal and show you what’s happening when the cameras aren’t rolling.

The crew is actually pretty funny and loose. I’m sure it’s because of Dr. Oz’s attitude toward them. Having been in television many years, I can tell you when the “talent” and senior management are enjoying themselves, the crew behind the scenes is much happier. I kind of expected them to look at us like we were in their way, but they were genuinely welcoming and friendly.

Be sure to watch Live on 5 all week for my Dr. Oz stories, and keep checking back here for more.
