NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio - A benefit is being held to help the family of a police officer killed in the line of duty.
Elyria Police Officer James Kerstetter was shot and killed on March 15 when responding to a late night call about an intruder exposing himself on 18th Street in Elyria.
Elyria Police said the suspect shot Kerstetter. Fellow officers arrived on scene and had a shootout with the suspect, who died from his injuries.
Friday's benefit is in North Ridgeville from 8-10 p.m., at Aces Grille on 32650 Lorain Rd. The evening features pizza and chicken wings, as well as a raffle for Indians, Browns, Crushers, Monsters and other tickets.
Those putting on the benefit are asking for a $20 donation, and all proceeds will go to Kerstetter’s family.
