OREGON, Ohio - Gretel was found underneath an overpass in Toledo earlier this week. A woman spotted the pooch and took her to the Maumee Bay Veterinarian Hospital for treatment.
Julie Cox thought Gretel was so badly hurt she would have to be put down.
"For someone to intentionally try to kill her... That's just unbelievable to me," Cox said.
Based on Gretel's injuries, veterinarian Dr. Kevin Soncrant thinks she was tossed from the overpass.
"She's got a left rear leg break and a little bit of neurological deficit in her front right leg, which is getting better. Initially, she had to be treated for shock."
To get Gretel back on her paws, she needs surgery on her left rear leg. The cost: $1,400.
