CLEVELAND - University Hospital's Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital held one of its bigger holiday events Sunday night. And many cancer foundations that have been started by various parents from Rainbow all came together for this fourth annual holiday give-away.
Members from the nonprofit organization 'Jeremy Cares' and other local sponsors gave their time, a holiday dinner and gifts to 10 pediatric children, adolescent and young adult cancer patients and their families at Rainbow.
The date of Dec. 23 was chosen for the event because because it is the day the founder's son, Jeremy George, now 22 years old, received his bone marrow transplant at Rainbow in 2008. Today, he remains in remission.
Through the support of donors, 'Jeremy Cares' provided holiday presents based on the patient's wish lists -- and they were delighted to open them with their families on Sunday night.
'Jeremy Cares' representatives work with the hospital's Child and Family Life Services Department to ensure that no family member or child is left out. The organization also teams up with other supporting Rainbow families and local groups including, A Spark of Hope and Little Jason's Childhood Cancer Foundation to help deliver a positive holiday experience for hospitalized patients and caregivers.
