CLEVELAND - The funeral for a 5-year-old boy killed in an unsolved hit and run was held Saturday morning.
Israel Thornton was laid to rest after services were held at the Second Calvary Baptist Church on Emery Street.
Israel was walking to school just before 7:30 a.m. last Friday morning when he was hit crossing Denison Avenue at West 37th Street.
According to police, the driver of the SUV that struck Israel did not stop and continued heading eastbound on Denison Avenue. Police are still searching for the driver.
Photos of the suspect's car were taken by a school bus security camera and released to the public on Thursday. The pictures show a mid-sized four-door SUV. The vehicle is a newer model vehicle with a rounded front end, tapered rear window, no luggage rack and either white, silver or light grey in color.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Accident Investigation Unit at 216-623-5295.
