CLEVELAND - Cleveland police released surveillance photos after a deadly shooting at an east side gas station.
Just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday, three men with guns attempted to rob Biggie’s Gas Station on East 55th Street, police said.
They shot Mohammed T. Ismail, 48, and Esmeil M. Avad, 28, before fleeing the scene, according to police.
Both were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where Ismail, a store clerk, was pronounced dead. Avad, who owns the store, suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and torso.
“He’s a very nice guy, very friendly. Give you his last dollar,” Henry Shepard said about the store owner. “I’m very shaken up about this.”
"I'm sick about it and I'm sick of it. So many things happening, just so many senseless crimes and murders and shootings,” Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland said. "We've got to fight back. People are afraid and we understand that. But nothing's going to change if we keep doing the same things."
Toia Taylor lives just a few blocks away. She said she was in the store last week.
“It’s sad. People trying to make a living and it’s sad,” Taylor said.
Police are asking anyone with information on the three men pictured to call the homicide unit at 216-623-5464. Anonymous tips can be given to Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7463 or by texting “TIP657” to 274637.
