SAN FRANCISCO - Cleveland Indians right fielder Shin-Soo Choo says he'll likely have surgery on his broken left thumb and could be out at least six weeks.
He will see a hand specialist at the Cleveland Clinic on Monday for a consultation. Choo was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and Travis Buck was called up from Triple-A Columbus.
Choo was injured when he was hit by a pitch by Jonathan Sanchez in the fourth inning of a 4-3 loss to San Francisco on Friday night. He fell face first to the dirt and remained there as a team trainer rushed out to check on him. He eventually was helped to the dugout.
Choo had hit safely in 20 of his previous 26 games.
