CLEVELAND - The lower level of the Detroit-Superior Bridge in Cleveland will be open for tours on an upcoming weekend in July.

The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works said the self-guided tours of the bridge (also known as the Veterans Memorial Bridge) will happen Saturday, July 7, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no cost to get in.

The tour allows visitors to explore the former subway tunnel that connected downtown to Ohio City, and offers unique views of the Cuyahoga River, Lake Erie and downtown Cleveland.

This county has offered similar tours in previous years, and the Cleveland Ingenuity Festival has held its annual event there for at the past two years. This year, however, Ingenuity Fest organizers said the event will be held along the lake near Cleveland Browns Stadium – so this will be the only chance to check out the bridge.

The main entrance to the tour will be at the Department of Public Works Garage at 2433 Superior Viaduct, at the northeast corner of the intersection of West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue.

Free parking will be available at the public works garage.

No reservations are required for the tours, and cameras are encouraged.
