CLEVELAND - Join NewsChannel5 for the 2012 WinterFest tree-lighting ceremony in downtown Cleveland this weekend.

Saturday's event at Public Square includes many activities throughout the day and night.

The fun starts at noon as NewsChannel5 projects the OSU/Michigan football game on a 14x11-foot screen in the square.

Free horse-drawn carriage rides will be given through downtown from 1 to 5 p.m. Riders can get catch a ride at the Old Stone Church.

Those looking to grab a bite to eat can take part in the food truck “Holiday Chow-Down,” which will be located on Ontario Avenue between Superior and Euclid, and will include at least nine different mobile eateries. Food will be served between 2 and 7 p.m.

NewsChannel5’s Macie Jepson will be hosting the tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., which will also be streamed live on newsnet5.com and the newsnet5 app.

There are many more events going on in connection with Saturday's event. Check out the Downtown Cleveland Alliance’s event details here: http://on.wews.com/SOZXAQ

Also, here are some facts about the tree, provided by the DCA:

· The tree, as well as Public Square, will officially light up at Downtown Cleveland Alliance’s Winterfest celebration presented by Huntington Bank on November 24.

· The official holiday tree was donated from a resident of the City of Cleveland

· The tree is a blue spruce that stands nearly 40-feet tall

· DCA has once again partnered with GE Lighting, who very generously donates the lights for the Winterfest celebration

· Approximately 4,100 strings of LED lights illuminate Public Square and the official holiday tree

· The display’s LED lights will consume 22,725 watts, while incandescent lights would have consumed 150,000 watts.

· GE has been using LED lights for the past 3 years and has been donating lights to Winterfest for more than 35 years.

· This year, the strands add up to 100,000 feet in honor of GE Lighting’s 100th anniversary of its world headquarters in Nela Park in Cleveland

· Cleveland Public Power powers the display during the entire holiday season
