CLELVELAND - A rally and candlelight vigil was held Saturday evening on Imperial Avenue in Cleveland, the site of the demolished home of convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell.
Monday will mark third anniversary of when the first remains of 11 women were found at the home beginning October 29, 2009.
In 2010, Sowell was convicted of 82 counts, including aggravated murder, rape and kidnapping, and was sentenced to death.
The city demolished Sowell's two-family house in December of 2011. A group of local architects are designing a memorial for the now-vacant lot. The type, shape and size of the memorial have yet to be determined.
In late September, new attorneys for Sowell filed a 242-page appeal to have his convictions overturned and win a new trial, blaming his previous counsel for the death sentence.
The Imperial Women Coalition hosted the rally with the theme, "Remembering the Imperial women through unity and solidarity by continuing the fight to eradicate violence against women. ”
