CLEVELAND - Police are investigating a shooting that happened outside of Joe D’s Third World Lounge at 13411 Miles Road.
Just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, police said a man was shot in the head during a shootout outside the establishment.
The victim was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where his condition remains unknown at this time.
According to police a patrol car was on routine patrol and drove into the middle of the shootout just after 1:45 a.m. Officers are not sure if the man who was shot was one of the shooters or even the target of the gunfire.
Shell casings were spread for nearly three blocks and numbered in the dozens; three cars also had windows shot out. Both Cleveland and Shaker Heights police responded to the scene.
Crime scene investigators spent hours reconstructing the scene and talking to witnesses. Police are not sure what led to the shooting or if it originated inside the lounge.
The incident remains under investigation, and police have not released any details about a potential suspect.
We will update the story as we receive more information.
