CLEVELAND - A woman was killed during a crash Tuesday afternoon and Cleveland police say the driver tried to hide evidence he had been drinking.
A 25-year-old woman was crossing the street at East 142nd Street and Kinsman Avenue at about 4:11 p.m. when she was hit by a Mitsubishi pick-up truck, Cleveland police said.
The woman was taken to Meridia South Pointe Hospital, where she died from her injuries. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Candase Moore of Cleveland.
The 33-year-old driver of the truck stayed at the scene of the accident while police arrived. That’s when officers say he threw a liquor bottle out of the truck and into a snow bank.
According to Cleveland police, the bottle was recovered and the driver appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to the division’s central prison unit.
The accident is still under investigation.
