CLEVELAND - Cleveland police said an officer shot a man at least two times Friday morning.

Police said officers had responded to a domestic violence situation at 9:04 a.m. in the 870 block of Whitcomb Avenue.

Police said when they got to the home 43-year-old Byron Carner was outside with a knife in his hand. They said he was arguing with a family member and, police said, he had just broken a vase or bottle over another family member’s head.

Police said they yelled at the man to put the knife down and he tried to run. He then lunged at the officer, according to police.

The officer said he fired two shots. However, neighbors said they heard three shots.

Cleveland Police said Carner was charged with felonious assault and taken to Huron Road Hospital.
