CLEVELAND - A retired Cleveland police officer has been charged with aggravated murder in connection with a shooting during a landlord-tenant dispute.
Cleveland police said 60-year-old Dale Edwards was taken into custody following the shooting Wednesday on East 151st Street between Bartlett Avenue and Kinsman Road.
The victim, who has been identified as 25-year-old Antoine Graves of Cleveland, was arguing with his landlord over rent money – and during that argument the landlord pulled out a handgun and shot the man in the chest, police said. The victim was not armed, according to police.
Graves was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
The Cleveland Police Department said Edwards is a retired Cleveland police sergeant, and called police dispatch to alert them of the shooting.
Edwards is expected to appear in court Friday morning.
