CLEVELAND - In a late afternoon email to media, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner said DNA testing is needed on the young boy's body found at a recycling facility in Oakwood because of the state the body was found in.
While the autopsy has been completed, the results have not been released. But Cleveland police tentatively identified the body as 3-year-old Emilliano Terry.
Medical examiner Thomas Gilson said the boy's body "has some decomposition," but "there is no dismemberment." Because there is some decomposition, DNA testing is needed to positively identify the body.
"This will likely take a few days," Gilson said. "The cause of death is still under investigation and we hope to make a ruling soon."
The boy's body was discovered Monday night after an FBI agent spotted a garbage truck while searching a Cleveland neighborhood. Authorities went to the trash processing location where they found the small boy's body wrapped in garbage bags.
Emilliano's mother, 20-year-old Camilia Terry, has been arrested, but not yet charged, in connection to the crime. Cleveland police call her the prime suspect.
Terry initially reported her son disappeared from Kossuth Park around 5 p.m. Sunday while she was tending to one of her other two children.
Investigators said the mother's story didn't stay consistent, leading them to believe she was involved.
Groups have organized a rally and vigil Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to honor Emilliano at Kossuth Park.
