CLEVELAND - Cleveland police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed outside a food mart on the city’s east side late Thursday night.
Officers were called to the Urban Food Mart at the corner of East 79th Street and Cedar Avenue just before midnight for reports of a man lying on the ground outside the store.
Paramedics rushed the victim to Cleveland Clinic where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said the victim was approached by three men, robbed, and then shot after a struggle. It happened in the parking lot after he left the store.
According to police, a 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Detectives are searching for two other suspects.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 48-year-old Byron Reese, of Cleveland.
Detectives said this marks the 71st homicide of 2012 in Cleveland.
