CLEVELAND - Cleveland police are investigating a homicide, the city's first of 2013.
According to police, officers first got a call around 2:50 a.m. Tuesday for shots fired in the 10000 block of Hilgert Ave. When police got to the scene, they found an unresponsive unidentified black male with gunshot wounds to the chest, lying on the front porch of the home.
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the victim dead.
The preliminary investigation shows one person, or several people, kicked the victim's front door in and shot him.
Officers searched for suspects, but so far do not have any suspects or a motive for the shooting.
According to FBI statistics, homicides rose more than 30 percent in Cleveland. In 2012, there were 97 murders compared to 74 in 2011.
The Cleveland Division of Police is asking that anyone with information in connection with this incident to contact the homicide unit at (216) 623-5464. Callers can remain anonymous.
