EASTLAKE, Ohio - A Cleveland man has accomplished what 20 others could not: chowing down a 5-pound, 4,000 calorie sandwich.
The Lake County Captains, the minor league affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, said Brett Meyer, of Cleveland, rose up to the Moby Dick Sandwich challenge over the weekend.
On Saturday, Meyer pounded the sandwich during the Captains versus Dayton Dragons game while sitting in the Moby Dick Challenge chair on the main concourse at Classic Park.
Meyer somehow finished the sandwich, which features a 15-inch sesame seed hoagie roll, five quarter-pound fish filets, eight slices of cheese, six ounces of clam strips, one-third pound of French fries, one cup of coleslaw, all topped off by gobs of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and tartar sauce.
The Moby Dick Sandwich weighs-in at over five pounds with over 4,000 calories and a diet-killing 200 grams of fat.
Aside from a full belly, Meyer took home a commemorative T-shirt and his photo has been placed on the Champion Eaters bulletin board.
Meyer is the first of over 20 contestants to beat the challenge.
