CLEVELAND - Throughout northeast Ohio, hotels are quickly reaching capacity as people displaced by superstorm Sandy seek shelter.

After more than a day without electricity and heat, many residents are packing up what they can and heading to a hotel.

Overnight, representatives at the Comfort Inn in Independence told NewsChannel5 that the establishment had already reached capacity. Meanwhile, staff at the nearby Courtyard Cleveland Independence said just three rooms remained available.

Some hotels are offering displaced guests discounts. In downtown Cleveland, the Holiday Inn Express is knocking down rates to $79 a night from $150. At Embassy Suites in Independence, rooms are being offered at a discounted rate of $99 a night.

Staff at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland, the Arcade and Courtyard Cleveland said those displaced by Sandy could speak with managers to receive special rates.
