CLEVELAND - Frontier Airlines is adding a new flight to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, but it's at the expense of service out of another airport.

The airline said Monday that it will begin nonstop service between its Denver, Colorado, hub and Cleveland, starting Jan. 9. There will be four weekly flights available.

"We've seen incredible demand for low-fare, high-value nonstop service to Denver throughout the northeast Ohio region," said Daniel Shurz, Frontier's senior vice president of commercial.

Frontier already offers flights from Cleveland to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Cancun, Mexico, through a partnership with Apple Vacations.

The move was part of Frontier's effort to consolidate its northeast Ohio operations – and it means no more service out of Akron-Canton Airport.

CAK said the pullout happened at a time it is experiencing record high customer levels.

"Although we hate to lose any airline service we expect a minimal impact from this announcement as customers have many other exceptional westbound service options from CAK," said Kristie Van Auken, senior vice president and CMCO for Akron-Canton Airport. "Customers can still very easily and affordably fly to Denver nonstop from CAK aboard Southwest Airlines."

Here's the flight schedule that Frontier will offer once it moves flights to Cleveland:
* Denver to Cleveland à 4:30 p.m. / 9:30 p.m. (Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sun)
* Cleveland to Denver à 5:50 p.m. / 7:20 p.m. (Mon/Thurs/Fri/Sun)

Frontier said it is offering fares as low at $80 each way for flights purchased before Sept. 30, when purchased through FlyFrontier.com
