Food drive this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to help feed needy in Cleveland communities

CLEVELAND - Economic conditions have continued to put a strain on local families, making it difficult for them to put food on the table. A food drive this Martin Luther King Jr. Day hopes to help ease the pain some Cleveland families feel.

Greater Cleveland Volunteers are collecting food donations today for local hunger centers until 2 p.m.

Most needed items include: peanut butter, canned tuna, canned fruit and vegetables, cereal (both hot and cold), jam/jelly, macaroni and cheese, pasta, whole grains (brown rice, barley) and juice.

Non-food items, such as toilet paper, shampoo and soap, was also needed. It's mainly because food stamps don't cover these items.

You can drop off your donation at the group's first floor conference room, located inside their office on 4614 Prospect Ave. in Cleveland.
