CLEVELAND - A man was killed after Cleveland police said he was shot and killed during an argument with his landlord – a retired police officer.

The incident happened at about 3 p.m. Wednesday on East 151st Street between Bartlett Avenue and Kinsman Road.

Cleveland Police Spokesman Sammy Morris said the victim was arguing with his landlord over rent money – and during that argument the landlord pulled out a handgun and shot the man in the chest. The victim was not armed, according to police.

The tenant was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Morris said the landlord – a retired Cleveland police sergeant – called police dispatch to alert them of the shooting.

The 60-year-old landlord was arrested and his name was released, but it is NewsChannel5 policy not to name a suspect until charges are filed.

NewsChannel5 has a crew at the scene. Keep checking newsnet5.com for more information.
