MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio - Andre Anderson said he wakes up in the morning and doesn't worry about his children being cold. His wife, Jasmine, can now cook a nice romantic dinner without getting burned. Things have certainly changed for the Andersons, on Monday celebrating their second wedding anniversary.
Last year, they were living in a small Maple Heights bungalow with holes in the walls and floors. This Valentine's Day they are relaxing in a new state-of-the art english tudor style home, courtesy of the ABC television program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
NewsChannel5 sat down with the Andersons Monday afternoon to see how things are going for the vision-impaired couple and their two sons -- and the family service dog, coincidentally named Valentine.
Both Jasmine and Andre Anderson praised God and thanked the community for their ongoing support. "Words can't describe it... It's been an awesome experience," said Andre. "We're in a house built with love," added Jasmine.
Valentine's Day will always be special for the Andersons -- and Maple Heights. They were married at city hall two years ago by Mayor Jeffrey Lansky.
"They came down here in a limousine, pulled up to the back door, we had them walk right in and we had a very nice, beautiful, romantic wedding ceremony," said Lansky.
The mayor went on to say that sometime in March the city will officially name the Andersons the 2010 "Citizens of the Year."
"They're just so wonderful, it's a good city, and we're honored," said Jasmine Anderson when told about the citizenship award. "We really owe everything to God and our community," added Andre.
