Dilapidated Stanley Block building surrounded by Cleveland casino parking garage to be demolished

CLEVELAND - The condemned building that caused developers to build around in constructing the downtown Cleveland casino parking garage will be torn down this week.

The historic Stanley Block building at 2121 Ontario is scheduled to be demolished Friday and Saturday.

The dilapidated building has been considered a thorn in the casino project, as the run-down structure was a glaring object next to the new garage and welcome center. Back in May, a judge ordered the owners of the building to either fix it up or tear it down.

Rock Caesars, a part owner in the building, reportedly said it wanted to see it razed.

All northbound traffic and one lane of southbound traffic on the street will be blocked starting Friday.

Here is the detour:

- Westbound on Huron Road from Ontario Street to Superior Avenue
- Eastbound on Superior Avenue to Prospect Avenue
- Prospect Avenue eastbound to Ontario Street
- Traffic will then be permitted to travel either north or south on Ontario Street, or continue east bound on Prospect Avenue
