CLEVELAND - A Sunday afternoon turned tragic in an east side neighborhood when a 19-year-old was shot in the neck.
Cleveland police said officers were dispatched just after 1 p.m. to E. 93rd Street and Empire Avenue for a teen shot. As officers were en route, another call came in that a van struck a pole on Chesterfield Avenue.
Officers learned that the driver of the minivan was trying to help the victim, Derrick Henderson, 19, when he crashed.
Police said Henderson was shot in the neck and died at the crash site. Two other people inside the minivan were evaluated by EMS workers.
The police department is asking anyone with information in connection to the shooting call them anonymously at (216) 623-5464.
