Cleveland State University raising tuition, eliminating charge for taking more credit hours

CLEVELAND - Like other colleges across northeast Ohio and the country, Cleveland State University is the latest to announce a tuition increase in the fall.

The nearly 3.5 percent hike will raise tuition to more than $9,200 each year.

In exchange, CSU will drop the additional $373 charge for students wanting to take more than 16 credit hours each semester, a fee that brought in $500,000 annually, according to CSU's Joe Mosbrooke.

Cleveland State's committee approved the tuition proposal at a Wednesday night meeting. It's expected to be fully passed in July.

Kent State University announced earlier this year they would be charging more than $400 for credit hours over the 16 cap, affecting 13 percent of students in the first year alone.
