Cleveland police to auction off thousands of items

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Police Department said that it will have thousands of items to auction off Saturday, ONN's Cristin Severance reported.

"We have laptops, we have power tools, we have baseball cards still in the packages. We have tons of miscellaneous jewelry and for some reason, this time around we have a lot of belt buckles," Cleveland Police Department Patrolman Tom Ward said.

All of the items were forfeited by convicted drug dealers or other criminals as part of plea deals or in an effort to get jail times reduced.

Ward said that the merchandise is then auctioned off to the public and all the money goes into the police department's general fund.

"The last couple auctions, we get 300 to 500 people," Ward said.

The sale will also include a $2,000 Trek bike, lawn chairs, a Bengals jersey and hundreds of other bikes. Whatever items you might be after, Ward said that you will be able to find good deals on everything.

"There is no minimum bid and whatever it goes to. Going once, going twice, sold," Ward said.

The auction preview will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the auction starting at 9 a.m. The address to the warehouse is 2200 West 3rd Street in Cleveland.

Officers said it can be tricky finding the place because of construction and detours.

They said the best way to get there is to go through the Tremont area of Cleveland and take Literary Road to West 3rd Street.
