CLEVELAND - Workers at Cleveland Horseshoe Casino want to join a union.
Employees of the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland have voted to unionize and are ranking the issues they want to negotiate with management.
The bargaining agent, the Cleveland Casino Workers Council, is actually an alliance of four unions that already represent casino workers in other states.
The Cleveland Casino Workers Council includes 1,050 Horseshoe employees. An arbitrator certified the election results Aug. 16.
The unions are also trying to organize workers at the Hollywood Casino Toledo. They also hope to represent employees at a casino opening in Columbus in October and another expected to open next spring in Cincinnati.
Horseshoe Casino spokeswoman Christina Karas says management is not objecting to the unionization of its employees.
Karas released this statement Tuesday:
"Our team members elected to be represented by the Ohio Casino Workers Council. Our position has been neutral during this process and we are looking forward to a positive and healthy relationship with council representatives. The goal of both our leaders and team members remains the same: to provide a first class entertainment and service experience to all of our guests."
