CLEVELAND - The city of Cleveland hired a company to handle the clean-up of the West Side Market after a fire left behind smoke damage.
On Friday, the city announced the Department of Public Works contracted Mentor-based RestorX MD to clean the historic building on West 25th Street.
The company will move in equipment on Saturday and plans to start working in the basement of the market’s main building on Sunday. The city said clean-up will take about five to 10 days.
The fire early Wednesday morning caused severe damage to two meat stands inside the 100-year-old market. No one was injured and vendors in the produce building were allowed to open on Friday.
RestorX MD is a disaster recovery company that specializes in fire damage, Cleveland said in a news release. The contract is worth about $276,000.
Fire officials said they believe the blaze was accidental and caused by an electrical issue.
