CLEVELAND - Hundreds of kids and their parents took to the skies for free, thanks to the Kids in Flight program.
Families spent 30 minutes in the air with a licensed pilot who volunteered their time and plane for Saturday's event at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland.
Kids in Flight was created in 2003 by cancer survivor and Willoughby native, Maria Weybrecht. The non-profit organization uses aviation related activities and airplane rides to give seriously ill children an opportunity to escape their everyday struggles.
On the ground, families also enjoyed food as well as arts, crafts, games and educational exhibits.
