CLEVELAND - Two people were injured when a car crashed through their apartment at West 131st Street and Puritas Avenue in Cleveland just after 2:45 a.m.

According to police, the driver was going south on West 131st Street when he went through a stop sign at Puritas Avenue, jumped a curb and crash through the front of the building, landing inside an apartment.

Two people sleeping inside the apartment were injured and police said that they are probably alive because they were sleeping on the floor. The two people had sheets and blankets that made up a bed just below where the car came through the building. Police said if they had been up on a bed they would have probably been crushed by the car.

Large chunks of bricks and glass were thrown all over the apartment.

The apartment manager said this is the second time someone has crashed into the exact same apartment. The last time someone crashed into the building the driver was able to stop the car before crashing through it.

Both people that lived in the apartment were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Police said the driver attempted to report his car stolen then changed his story to his brakes failed before admitting to the crash. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Police said they suspected alcohol was a factor in the crash.
