CLEVELAND - Visitors arriving at Hopkins Airport will know that Superman was created in Cleveland.
A new exhibit, including a 7-foot statue of the superhero, was unveiled at the airport Thursday evening.
"We have lots to be proud of because Superman is one of five literary figures known in every culture in every country," said Mike Olszewski, president of the Siegel and Shuster Society.
"We want people to know that it started right here in Cleveland."
Superman was created by Glenville teenagers, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, in 1938.
"This is a happy day for our family," said Laura Siegel Larson, Jerry Siegel's daughter. "He would be over the moon. He would be just over the moon. He would think that this was absolutely fantastic."
Superman was created at a house in Kimberly Avenue. Family members say Clark Kent's name is the combination of two of Siegel's favorite actors, Clark Gable and Kent Smith.
The exhibit is located in baggage claim near Carousel 10.
