CLEVELAND - A mix-up at a Cleveland day care started when a child was sent home with the wrong family.
The incident happened at the Fatima Family Center, at 6600 Lexington Avenue, Thursday afternoon.
Cleveland Police Sgt. Sammy Morris said a grandfather went to pick up his 3-year-old grandson at the day care and an employee gave the man the wrong child.
The day care didn’t realize the mistake until the mother of the child came to pick up her son, police said. That’s when they contacted Cleveland police, but at that time the grandfather was on his way back to the day care with the wrong child.
Cleveland police determined this was not a criminal event and they are no longer investigating. No charges will be filed.
The Fatima Family Center is run by the Cleveland Catholic Charities Health and Human Services. The secretary of Catholic Charities Health and Human Services said two employees did not follow pick-up procedures, failing to check a file on each child that lists who can take them home.
During a routine inspection last year, state report shows workers weren't recording attendance for pre-schoolers walking through the center's doors.
