CLEVELAND, Ohio - Some Cleveland police officers took time out of their day to volunteer to feed those in need.

They gave away 41 turkeys and 100 meals to families, including seniors, special needs, people with health challenges.

The officers went through the Tremont area knocking on doors, delivering the food to a list of people whose names were suggested by councilmembers and other officers.

Sixty-eight-year-old Lucy Fremgen does her best to take care of her 44-year-old daughter and 50-year-old son. They're both disabled and battling diabetes. Fremgen said it's hard to meet their needs.

She said this Thanksgiving day meal really helps.

"I love you all, very nice person. Don't make me cry. I'm going to cry, what can i say they're lovely, what else could I say from my heart, they are very beautiful people," said Fremgen.

For the past eight years Fremgen said police have been the answer to her prayers supplying these meals. This year her daughter Lucy shows her own gratitude, making crafts for Commander Keith Sulzer.

"Thanks for the food. Thanks for everything. Thanks for the good food you bring us," said Lucy.

Sulzer said they're usually working in the community helping people who've been victimized. That's why a day away from the mayhem is so important to them.

"Today's a day where we can sit and talk to them a little bit, and gave a smile on our face and let them know that we care about them," Sulzer said.
