CLEVELAND - Cleveland police have charged four men who were trying to take an ATM machine from a GetGo gas station on Ridge Road Thursday morning.
Pierre Davis, Joseph E. Powell, Darnell J. Jackson, and Jamal Jerrod Head have all been charged with breaking and entering theft.
Cleveland police chased Davis early Thursday morning, but lost him. He got away momentarily after he, Powell, Jackson, and Head allegedly robbed a GetGo gas station at 4951 Ridge Rd.
Pierre's friends were caught quickly, but he was apparently out of shape. Det. Jennifer Ciaccia said he called 911 complaining of shortness of breath.
Davis was rounded up by police at Parma Community General Hospital.
The men attempted a smash and grab, ripping open the front door in order to get to the ATM, police said. The men struggled to get the machine outside, but could not get to its valuable contents.
Police said they believe these suspects may be connected to a string of ATM robberies that have been on going for the last year, with the total somewhere near 40.
NewsChannel5 asked for a list of where the other robberies took place, but our query was referred to the records office, which did not get back to us.
A gas station clerk said the ATM should be up and running within the week. It was placed back in the store with people being turned away because it was out of service.
