CLEVELAND - A former Cleveland police officer has been charged with rape Friday, according to a Cleveland Municipal Court representative.
Patrol Officer Gregory Jones, 47, has been accused of forcing a woman to engage in sexual conduct while off duty, Chief Michael McGrath said. The alleged incident happened on July 13.
Jones, a 21-year veteran of the Cleveland Police Department, appeared in court Friday morning with his lawyer. No plea was entered and the $50,000 bond was continued.
Jones is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 24.
Jones was removed from street duty during the investigation. He surrendered to internal affairs investigators after the arrest warrant was issued earlier this week.
