CLEVELAND - Someone locally has become a millionaire after Wednesday night's Powerball drawing. But whoever won the $2 million has yet to claim their prize.
The winning numbers were sold by the BP manager at the W. 117th Street location.
"Apparently, I'm a celebrity and all I did was sell the ticket," said manager Sam Seilar.
Matching the winning numbers normally gets you $1 million, but the buyer purchased a $1 Power Play which doubled the winnings to $2 million.
"They haven't personally come in yet, but I'm sure whenever they wake up or get off work they'll be pretty excited," Seilar said.
Lottery officials brought an oversized check and large banner to put on display, showing off the winning store.
Laurie Brown who has worked there for 15 years has never witnessed this before.
"Never, never, never. That's why I'm so excited. After 15 years, this is the most exciting thing that's ever happened here."
The company will get a chunk of the earnings, but who it will go to isn't known yet.
Even though Brown won't share in the money, she's happy for the winner and hopes this moment will change that person's life. She really hopes it'll go to someone who really needs it.
"I hope they count their blessings and really do something significant with it because it's going to change their life. I know it would change mine for sure," Brown said. "Anything that you don't have that God sends you is a blessing."
