CLEVELAND - The Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University has awarded the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award to Dr. Theodore J. Castele.
The man who was affectionately known as NewsChannel5's "Doctor Ted," was given the award at an alumni luncheon Friday on the campus.
Dr. Castele was recognized for his extraordinary contributions to the health and welfare of Clevelanders, and his long-standing support for the university and its projects.
Castele introduced the world to the concept of a television news physician and medical editor.
In that role at Cleveland's WEWS, Castele made nearly a billion "video house calls" to discuss health questions. He appeared on multiple news shows all through the week.
