CLEVELAND - More than 400 employees and retirees of Eaton Corporation are volunteering at the Cleveland Sight Center camp on Thursday, August 16 and Friday, August 17, in conjunction with United Way of Greater Cleveland’s Days of Caring.

Employees from ten of Eaton’s Greater Cleveland locations are taking part in painting buildings, building picnic tables, clearing trails, removing trees, landscaping and cleaning. They're working together to give the facility, known as the Highbrook Lodge, a much needed facelift.

“We believe that tomorrow’s possibilities rely on today’s efforts,” said Eaton’s United Way campaign chairman, Jack Matejka, senior vice president of Internal Audit. “This belief also holds true for improving the communities where we work and live. Investing in United Way is a way for Eaton to demonstrate its core value of supporting and improving our local communities.”

The Cleveland Sight Center summer camp was founded in 1928. The camp helps children and adults who are blind or have limited vision, improve orientation and mobility skills, increase their ability to live independently and learn while having fun surrounded by natural beauty.

“The Cleveland Sight Center is unique for its comprehensive services for northeast Ohio residents of any age who are blind or have limited vision,” said Steven M. Friedman, Ph.D., president and executive director of the Cleveland Sight Center. “We are delighted to have Eaton's employees. The camaraderie and work that they accomplish are a great benefit for both organizations.”

A former camper, who is now a program coordinator at Highbrook Lodge, was moved to tears by the volunteers' efforts. "I'm getting emotional. I'm so touched to see all the positive changes and great progress here. It means so much to me," said Andrea Stover.
