Volunteers sign-up for another Building Better Neighborhoods project in Cleveland

CLEVELAND - About a dozen volunteers signed-up and received their marching orders Thursday evening for the latest Building Better Neighborhoods project.

More than 100 volunteers are expected to work Friday on West 30th Street in Cleveland, which is directly across from Lincoln West High School. The volunteers will be coordinated by Rebuilding Together Director Paul Holm.

The event involves improving 16 homes along West 30th Street. Volunteers from Lincoln West High School, WEWS and from the neighborhood will pick-up trash, take down high weeds and install new landscaping.

Rebecca Kempton is a homeowner in the neighborhood and attended Thursday night's meeting. 

"I'm excited. I'm ecstatic about it because a lot these people they just need a helping hand. They don't need a handout, but sometimes when things are so negative and so down it's hard to rise above that. So, Channel 5 coming out and spending money and helping with the beautification is going to help raise the spirits for the whole street," Kempton said.

NewsChannel5 will have live coverage of the Building Better Neighborhoods street cleanup, starting at 6 a.m. on Good Morning Cleveland. NewsChannel 5's Chris Flanagan and Joe Pagonakis will also be live at noon, 5 and 6 p.m.
