ELYRIA, Ohio - An Elyria man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday night.
The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 9:30pm on State Route 57 southbound, south of interstate 90 in Elyria.
Arthur D. Gula, age 50 of Elyria, was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle was exiting I-90 eastbound onto SR 57 southbound. As he approached he attempted to merge to the left with the southbound traffic before the end of the ramp and struck a concrete curb.
His motorcycle overturned and Mr. Gula was ejected. He was not wearing a helmet and struck the roadway wehre he came to rest in the southbound lanes.
Mr. Gula sustained serious injuries and was transported by Metro Life-Flight to Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center where he has been listed in critical condition.
Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear at this to have been a factor in the crash. It does not appear that Mr. Gula was traveling at an unsafe rate of speed or operating his motorcycle in a reckless manor.
No charges have been filed at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
