CANTON, Ohio - A Summit County woman has died following a police chase in Canton early Saturday morning.

Troopers with the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating after a vehicle they pursued crashed along the 1700 block of East Tuscarawas Street in Canton around 12:30 a.m. on February 16, 2013.

According to the news release, the crash occurred after the driver, Christopher W. Dinger, 27, of Canton, sped away from troopers as they initiated a traffic stop for speeding. Troopers say Dinger lost control of the car, sending it spinning off the left side of the road where it struck a curb. His front seat passenger, Stephanie A. Castor, 21, of Canton, was thrown from the car.

According to troopers, Dinger ran from the crash scene but was caught and arrested a short time later. Canton firefighters rushed Castor to Aultman Hospital, and she later died. Dinger was treated for minor injuries before being arrested and taken to the Stark County Jail.

Dinger submitted to a breath test, which trooper say showed a.088 BAC. Dinger has been charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of both cocaine and marijuana. According to troopers, more charges are expected.

The crash remains under investigation.
