GREEN, Ohio - For six years, the Summit County Sheriff's training center has made sure people have a place to take Old Glory when it loses luster.
Under law, flags no longer fit for display must be destroyed, preferable by fire.
It's called retirement.
After each flag is inspected, it is presented with a salute and then taken to the flame.
The dignity of the ceremony is a moving experience for many.
"It's emotional. I got teary-eyed several times. It's amazing," said a spectator at Monday's event.
Retiring the Stars and Stripes is perhaps more emotional for the men and women who have fought for the freedom it represents.
