KHOST PROVINCE, Afghanistan - A soldier from Akron was killed after his unit was attacked in Afghanistan.
According to the Department of Defense, 30-year-old Capt. Joshua M. McClimans died last Friday at Forward Operating Base Salerno, Khost province, Afghanistan. He was overseas supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
The DOD said insurgents attacked McClimans’ unit with indirect fire.
McClimans was assigned to the 848th Forward Surgical Team, U.S. Army Reserve, based in Twinsburg.
His girlfriend, Melissa Bulebush, told NewsChannel5 that he leaves behind a son, Max, who was his pride and joy. A step daughter Emily whom he adored.
"He is a hero in all our eyes," said Bulebush.
No other details about the incident have been released.
